Abstract
Background and Objectives:There are reports indicating that fatty acid transport is affected by many biochemical parameters including trace metals. In this study the effect of Mn on oleic acid transport was investigated.
Materials and Methods: EGS was prepared from rat intestin and incubated in appropriate medium containing oleic acid. The transported oleic acid inside the EGS is measured spectrophotometrically under different conditions of temperature and concentrations.
Results: Mn inhibited oleic acid transport in a dose dependent manner. Oleic acid transport is further inhibited if Na+ is excluded from the medium.
Conclusion: Oleic acid transport appeared to be a Na+ - dependent process and Mn may exert its inhibitory action by interfering with this system.
