Abstract

Diabetes self-management education in older adults should match the cognitive and functional abilities of the patient. Differences in cognition, frailty, comorbidity, and available support make a uniform educational approach unsuitable. Brief assessment of cognition, frailty, hypoglycemia risk, and caregiver need before education can help tailor education and improve the safety of self-management.
