Abstract
Background and Objectives: High triglycerides and cholesterol levels are strong risk factor for cardiovascular events. This study was done to investigate hyper lipidemia in different phenotype of PCOS.
Materials and Methods: In this study 3200 girl students 18-14 years were studied.
Clinical signs of androgen sis, Irregular menstruation and ultrasound study of the pelvic and laboratory examination for serum prolactin, total and free testosterone, and thyroid stimulating hormone level were performed in suspected cases .serum levels of dehydroepiandrostandion level (DHEAS) were performed for ruling out the adrenal disorder. Result was analyzed by statistical methods.
Results: High serum cholesterol and triglycerides level and low HDL level were more prevalent in the different phenotypes of polycystic ovary syndrome, but the difference in those with phenotype oligomenorrhea and clinical singe of hyperandrogenism was significant. Eleven patient (25.6%) of those with oligomenorrhea and polycystic ovary has a moderate e risk and18 (41.9%) had high risk of hypercholesterolemia.
Conclusion: Different phenotypes of polycystic ovary syndrome has a higher risk of High triglycerides level and low HDL level than normal individuals.
