Abstract
Background and Objectives: Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is described by pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior toward authority figures. The quality of family life seems to be an important factor in the development of ODD in children. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of mother's communication patterns on reducing the symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder in children.
Materials and Methods: The subjects of this study were a group of mothers who had children with oppositional defiant disorder. The degrees of disobedient in children were measured by oppositional defiant disorder rating scale (ODDRS). 15 mothers with ODD child’s were entered an 8 week training and were taught methods of communication and how to manage and cope with ODD. After 3 month the degree of disobedient were measured by ODDRS in trained mothers’ child in 15 ODD child’s without trained mothers.
Results: The result of this study revealed that mother training significantly decrease (P<0.05) the degree of disobedient measured by ODDRS in their children.
Conclusion: Our study shows that education mother's communication patterns have an effect on reducing symptoms oppositional defiant disorder of children's.
