Abstract
Background and Objectives: Alexithymia is a personality trait in individuals. The aim of the present study was to evaluate prediction of the alexithymia changes based on the personality components.
Materials and Methods: In a descriptive-correlation study, 200 individuals among the students of Tabriz University were randomly selected. Twenty-item Toronto questionnaire (TAS-20) and the five-factor model (NEO-FFI) questionnaire were used for data collection.
Results: The personality factors predicted 29% of the alexithymia variance. In addition, stepwise regression was used to reveal the differential role of each personality factors in alexithymia prediction. Accordingly, the roles of extraversion, conscience, openness, and neuroticism were 18%, 7%, 2% and 2%, respectively.
Conclusions: The result of this study showed that the score of alexithymia can be predicted using the personality factors.
